Was looking to finish my new concrete garage floor with something other than flakes and paint. Scrolled the internet for ideas and found the Vibrance concrete dye. I really liked the look of the charcoal, stormy gray and white pics advertised on website. I rented a concrete grinder to prep floor for dye. Spraying the three colors of dye was a very easy process. Topped the floor with a polyaspartic clear coat so floor would be suitable for intended garage use. I Can’t be any happier with the results. All my neighbors and friends can’t believe I did this myself. I highly recommend this product to anyone. If you want a professional looking floor different from all your neighbors give it a try yourself. - Personal Tips:
Take your time and prepare floor accordingly. I used grinder, then pressure washed concrete. Let concrete dry before applying product. Use please use a good acetone approved sprayer. - Direct Colors Products Used:

Safe & Stylish Party Garage
Construction of a party garage with a textured, non-slip concrete floor stained with Charcoal Antiquing™ Stain. Despite minor setbacks, the project resulted in a stylish and safe space that received compliments from all guests.

Project Info:
- Project Completed In: 2 days day(s)
- Estimate of Square Footage: 480 sq ft sq. ft.
- Project Description:
We wanted a place to hangout by our pond and decided to build a party garage.
We didn’t want the floor to be slippery for kids with wet feet so we hand troweled the concrete so it would have some texture. This texture is what makes the floor look amazing with the direct colors antiquing stain. Everyone who has come over has commented on how nice the floor looks. - Personal Tips:
I used my plastic baseball cleats when spraying on the 2nd coat thinking it would be ok instead of buying the spiked shoes. This left a couple foot prints that can be seen. Luckily they were only in the back storage area.
I also used the same cheap pump sprayer for the 2nd coat of sealer. This left some white specs on the floor that you can only see if you look close. Next time I would buy a 2nd sprayer for the 2nd coat.
The first day I hosed off and scrubbed the floor with water and let dry, then sprayed the stain.
On the second day I sprayed the sealer.
I also dropped an air nailer from the ceiling when framing the interior wall. This chipped the concrete. I was able to throw some more color down on the chipped area and seal it and you can barely see it.
Other than that it went super easy and turned out great. - Direct Colors Products Used:

Garage Makeover Magic: Turning a Shed into a Stylish Multi-Functional Space
In just 5 days, a 1,200 sq. ft. shed was converted into an all-in-one space, featuring a sleek garage, entertaining area, kitchenette, half bath, and storage. The garage floor boasts a stunning stained finish, created with a mix of Black and Malayan Buff from Direct Colors. Fast shipping and high-quality products from Direct Colors made this transformation a success.

Personal Tips: For the best garage floor results, consider mechanical etching or solvent-based treatments for a darker, more even color. The type of floor prep can impact the final result, so choose the method that aligns with your desired outcome. In this case, mechanical etching provided the most satisfactory results.

- Project Description:
We just completed a large shed with entertaining space, kitchenette, half bath, garage and storage. We love our stained floors from Direct Colors! They were super helpful, shipping was fast, and the products were great. Originally we were going to do several colors to create patterns. I opted to mix Black and Malayan Buff together to get one color since that is what was already ordered. It worked, but just buy one color if that is what you want to do. - Personal Tips:
I did three different preps to three different areas. They all had the same treatment after that. Kitchen, entryway/toilet, and party room. Kitchen was just cleaned with simple green and stained, entry area was citrus etched and then stained, and the party area was mechanical etch and stained. I would recommend mechanical etching, or solvent based if you want a darker color. Acid before acid is going to reduce the alkaline pH of the concrete surface. I rented a floor cleaner from HD after doing it by hand to avoid all the dust. I etched the floor wet with a grill brick followed by orbital sanding. It took me one day, but it was worth it to me for the darker color. Just cleaning the floor first left darker areas where glue was removed with solvent. Citrus etch was most even but lighter color. This was all one continuous slab of concrete pour at one time. - Direct Colors Products Used:

Garage Floor Glow-Up
This DIY project involved restoring an unsightly garage floor by removing the old coating, applying ColorWave Amber for color, and sealing with EasySeal gloss. The process spanned five days, with a successful outcome of a durable, attractive garage floor that withstood hot tire marks.

Personal Tips: Prioritize thorough preparation, and remember you can use a paint roller instead of a pump sprayer for applying EasySeal.
Project Info:
- Project Completed In: 5 day(s)
- Estimate of Square Footage: 500 sq. ft.
- Project Description:
My garage was unsightly; The previous owner applied some kind of coating and sealant that was coming up. I rented a concrete grinder to remove the coating. This took 2 days and was the hardest part of the project. On day 3 I applied 3 coats of ColorWave Amber. This was easy and only took 15 minutes per coat using a pump sprayer. On Day 4 I applied the first coat of EasySeal gloss. The directions say this can be applied using a pump sprayer, but it is too thick. I had to stop my project to go buy a roller and tray. I was worried the roller would leave streaks, but there are only a few and they are not very noticeable unless you are looking for them.I left the garage door open overnight because the VOC’s are no joke! I even turned off the AC because it was pulling air in from the garage and stinking up my house. I am not complaining though because I know this product will last!Day 5 I applied the second coat of sealer without any issues. The real test was 3 days later when I put the cars back in the garage. I was worried the coating would peel up and leave hot tire marks, but it didn’t!
I would totally recommend these products for the DIY’er, I saved thousands of dollars from the quotes I received.
- Personal Tips:
take your time on the prep.
Easy Seal must be applied with a paint roller, NOT a pump sprayer. - Direct ColorsProducts Used:

Architect’s DIY Triumph: Crafting a Stunning Studio with Acid-Stained Floors
In just 5 days, an architect converted their 400 sq. ft. detached garage into a stunning work/studio space by replacing the old concrete floor with a new slab and acid-staining it for a unique, eye-catching feature. After consulting Direct Colors and ordering DIY kits, the floor was successfully transformed, complementing the renovated walls and wiring.

Personal Tips: Start with a lighter application of acid stain, as it’s easier to darken the color with additional applications but challenging to make it lighter. Use plastic film to cure new slabs and protect walls during the staining process.
Project Info:
- Project Completed In: 5 day(s)
- Estimate of Square Footage: 400 sq. ft.
- Project Description:
I’m an Architect and wanted to convert my detached garage into my work/studio space. The old concrete floor was in very poor condition so I knew I was going to need a new floor slab and I wanted to make the new floor a feature of the new studio space by acid-staining the new slab. I had seen some very nice acid-stained floors in some of my projects and I had assumed I would have to hire a contractor to do the work, but after reading the information on the Direct Colors website, I decided to do the staining work myself. I had the old slab removed and replaced with new concrete. I did not put a sealer on the new slab but covered it with plastic film for 30 days to let it cure. I then did the other renovation work on the old garage space such as installing new wiring, furring, insulation, and plywood on the walls. After the plywood was finished with a clear sealer, I began the work on the floor. I cleaned the floor with DC Cleaner & Degreaser as recommended and tried a few samples in a corner. I then spoke with a DC rep who was very helpful with some tips on how to work with two different stain colors for the desired effect and ordered all the materials I would need from DC. Ordering the DIY Kits gave me a better price than ordering individual products.
- Personal Tips:
I would go lighter on the first spray application of acid stains as it is possible to get a good idea about the final colors in less than an hour. More spray applications can darken the color if desired, but you can’t get the colors lighter. - Direct Colors Products Used:

Gnarly Garage Bar

Intending to create a ‘concrete veining’ look on their three-car garage floor, this DIYer used black and red acid stain. They relied on our How-To Videos to get the job done. The finished product is somethin’ else!
Project Info:
- Project Completed In: 4 day(s)
- Estimate of Square Footage: 750 sq. ft.
- Project Description:
This is a two car section of a three car garage being turned into a garage bar. The previous owner had used it as a race car shop. I wanted a “vein” finish, so I started by pooling the English Red. I let that sit approximately 20 minutes, then pooled the first layer of black around the red. I then filled in the open areas with black. I left the acid on approximately 14 hours before neutralizing.I then scrubbed and washed the floor one quarter of the room at a time and hosed off until there was no more residue. I let it dry for about 16 hours before spraying the first layer of sealer on it. This is a heated space, so that sped up the drying process. It then sat again for about 18 hours before the second coat of sealer.

Garage Floor Adventure: Taming the Coffee Brown in Your Acid Stain DIY Project
In a 10-day DIY adventure, this 300 sq. ft. two-car garage floor was transformed using four acid stain colors—desert amber, cola, coffee brown, and azure blue. However, the coffee brown became a dominant force, making the floor darker than expected. To add some brightness, gold leaf was incorporated, ultimately creating a striking and unique garage floor.

Personal Tips: Avoid power washing after staining, as it can remove the color. Aim for a natural application by letting the stain pool and create intriguing patterns. Be cautious of using too much coffee brown to prevent an overly dark result.
Project Info:
- Project Completed In: 10 day(s)
- Estimate of Square Footage: 300 sq. ft.
- Project Description:
I acid stained my two car garage. I cleaned the floor with a degreaser (many times) and utilized four of your acid stain colors, desert amber, cola, coffee brown, and azure blue. Unfortunately the brown overpowered many colors, but I think the end result is good. I added gold leaf to the floor to add some brightness. - Personal Tips:
Don’t power wash after you stain, it will remove it. Try to apply the stain naturally and let it pool so it creates cool looking runs. If you spray in one spot, a ugly circle of stain will appear and it doesn’t look natural. - Direct Colors Products Used:

Question: I want to create a coral reef-themed floor with azure blue and shifting sand colors for a rec room in my garage for my kids. How can I achieve this look?
Answer: To create a stunning coral reef-inspired floor, we recommend checking out our “Transforming A Boat Storage Garage Into An Ocean Oasis With Acid Stains” project, which features the acid stain colors you have in mind. Keep in mind that Azure Blue can be a tricky color to work with, so it’s important to test your concrete slab beforehand to ensure it has the ability to react and produce the desired shade of blue. We strongly recommend etching your concrete prior to applying the Azure Blue stain. Additionally, you can learn how to use Miracle-Gro to enhance the blue hues of the acid stain on your concrete floor by reading our article, “Using Miracle-Gro to Enhance the Blue Hues of Acid Stain on Concrete.”
Since the garage will be used as an indoor room, we recommend sealing the floor with our water-based sealer, AquaSeal™, for optimal results and durability. To add an extra layer of protection and maintain a polished finish, apply our water-based ProWax Polish™ as a topcoat. This will help you achieve a vibrant and captivating coral reef look for your kids’ rec room while ensuring a safe, long-lasting, and attractive finish.
How do you prep smooth concrete for staining?
Smooth or hard-troweled concrete garages will need to be sanded or chemically profiled using CitrusEtch™ concrete etcher before staining.
Pre-treatment will enhance the acid stain reaction and aid rich color development.
Testing to be Certain
Because garage floors are more likely to have chemical spills or other contaminants, we strongly recommend testing the acid stain in an inconspicuous area prior to beginning the project.
Floors cleaned with a muriatic acid solution cannot be successfully stained and when the concrete history isn’t known beforehand, testing is crucial. Direct Colors has acid stain sample kits for testing.
